By plane and hire car or transfer

The closest airport to Vaujany is Grenoble, just a 1 hour 15 minute transfer along easy roads. There are plenty of hire car options at the airport or you can arrange a private transfer with ski-lifts.com. Other airports we recommend are Lyon, Chambery and Geneva.

Grenoble Airport        96 km      1 hr 15 mins

Chambery Airport     121 km     1 hr 32 mins

Lyon Airport               143 km     1 hr 40 mins

Car hire or private transfer recommended but there are regular buses from Lyon Airport to Grenoble coach station, from where you can take a direct bus to Vaujany.

Geneva Airport           204 km    2 hrs 20 mins

You can hire a car at Geneva airport from both the French and Swiss sides. There advantages/disadvantages to both – the Swiss side tends to be more expensive but more efficient and direct with snow tyres and the Swiss motorway toll included. Hiring from the French side tends to be cheaper but the expensive one-off Swiss motorway toll is not included, nor are snow tyres and chains. If you hire from the French side, ensure to get specific directions back to the airport as it is more complicated to get back to the French side.

By Train

The best route is to use the TGV service from Paris to Grenoble Station – from there it’s a one-hour transfer to the resort. You can book tickets and check train times at rail-europe.com or eurostar.com.

While do-able, we wouldn’t advise you to take the Snow train, which leaves from London and arrives at Bourg St Maurice. From Bourg the journey is not particularly straight forward: the easiest thing to do is pay for an expensive 2 hour taxi ride to Vaujany, alternatively take the train to Grenoble and then get a transfer.

Summer: In the summer months you can get a direct train from London to Lyon. This is operated by eurostar.com

Self-Drive

The drive to Vaujany takes 7 - 10 hours from Calais, depending on conditions and how fast you drive. You can get comprehensive directions from viamichelin.com but basically head towards Grenoble (by that point you are about an hour away) then follow signs to ‘Stations de l’Oisans-Vizille’ and ‘Bourg d’Oisans’. We will send you detailed directions to the chalet when you book.

Travel in the resort

Vaujany is small enough to walk everywhere easily with escalators and lifts taking you from top to bottom of the village. Parking is rarely a problem, with free covered car parking in the village center.
