Outdoor activities

Whatever level of activity you are after, Vaujany and the surrounding area has something for you. From leisurely walks to mountaineering, kayaking to mountain biking the list is endless. Our top 16 is below:

With the Tour de France passing through the area every year, discover some of the most iconic cycle routes from the 21 Alpe d'Huez hairpins to the Col de la Croix de Fer and Col du Glandon.

More than 250km of trails connecting 8 resorts means there's something for every mountain bike enthusiast. With a practice area, Enduro trails and trial zones, the cable car from Vaujany takes you into the heart of this mountain biking

With 950 km of paths, covering easier family routes to more challenging climbs with peaks, lakes and glaciers, there is no shortage or trails to follow directly from Vaujany. The tourist office has hiking maps with suggestions of different routes to take and guides are available in both winter and summer.

The treetop adventure park (Accrobranche) in nearby Oz is open 7 days a week from 10am to 6pm, in July and August, and has levels suitable from ages 3 to adult. It has some pretty awesome zip wires too!

On the Lac du Verney, just down the mountain from Vaujany (10 minutes by car), you can hire kayaks, canoes and pedallos. Life jackets are included.

There are 7 Via Ferrata (2 in Vaujany) and 8 climbing crags in the area. You can hire equipment from Ride for Life (2 minutes from our chalets) and an instructor/guide through Guide d'Oisans.

There are 3 outdoor climbing walls, one in Vaujany and the others not far away in Allemont and Alpe d'Huez, together with a number of indoor walls in the area. 

Take the cable car up to Montfrais, picnic by the lake, pick wild blueberries and brave the fresh mountain water! A perfect family outing. Alternatively there are 3 outdoor pools in Allemont for all ages.

There are two rafting options: one 'standard' course for the over 11s and a two-hour 'sports' course for the more adventurous (over 14s only).  

There are several local organisations offering everything from pony rides to long hacks in the mountains.

Indoor activities (Vaujany leisure centre)

With a 25m pool, slide and waterfall, plus paddling pool for young children, there's something here for the whole family to enjoy.
